Sedation

Sedation Dentistry

Compassionate sedation options for anxious patients, from gentle nitrous oxide to deeper oral and IV sedation, led by Dr. Eden Seitomer with over a decade of experience.

Does your child cry and cling to you before dental visits? Do you dread sitting in the exam room, your palms sweating? At Livingston Dental Group, we ease anxiety surrounding dental care through compassionate, effective sedation dentistry led by Dr. Eden Seitomer.

We understand that dental anxiety is real, and we never want fear to stand between you and the healthy smile you deserve. That's why we offer multiple sedation options tailored to your comfort level and the complexity of your treatment.

Our Sedation Options

Nitrous Oxide for Mild Relaxation

Nitrous oxide sedation involves breathing purified oxygen blended with nitrous gas through a scented nasal mask. Offering mild relaxation without losing consciousness, effects dissipate minutes after removal allowing normal function. This is an excellent choice for patients with mild anxiety or children who need a little extra help staying calm and still during their appointment.

Oral Sedation for Deeper Calm

Prescription anti-anxiety medication promotes relaxation and amnesic effects in the dental chair while preserving respiration and protective reflexes. You'll remain awake but deeply relaxed, and many patients remember little of the procedure afterward. Patients require an escort due to longer lasting drowsiness.

IV Sedation for High Anxiety

Intravenous sedation delivers anti-anxiety medication for a deeper state of relaxation. Responsiveness is maintained to respond to cues, but you'll feel completely at ease throughout your treatment. Patients also need an escort following the appointment due to lingering effects. Livingston Dental Group works closely with a highly qualified team of dental anesthesiologists to offer IV sedation for the truly anxious patient.

Common questions
Will I be completely unconscious during sedation?+

It depends on the level of sedation. With nitrous oxide, you remain fully awake and aware. Oral sedation keeps you awake but deeply relaxed. IV sedation produces a deeper state of relaxation, though you can still respond to cues. None of these options render you completely unconscious like general anesthesia.

Is sedation dentistry safe?+

Yes. Dr. Seitomer has specialized training and over a decade of experience in sedation dentistry. We continually monitor your vital signs throughout the procedure, and for IV sedation, we work with highly qualified dental anesthesiologists to ensure your safety.

Will I need someone to drive me home?+

For nitrous oxide, no. The effects wear off within minutes, and you can drive yourself. For oral and IV sedation, you will need an escort to drive you home and stay with you until the effects fully dissipate.
